The Family Business

And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?”  Luke 2:49

Just what kind of business do you find yourself in today?

Are you called student, doctor, lawyer, garbage collector, plumber, teacher, mother, father, pastor, engineer, nurse, data scientist, or something else?  While we may have these jobs and more, if we follow after Jesus, we are called Christian first and foremost.  Having this identity, we are in the family business and this business colors every aspect of our lives.  Just how well we humbly and courageously carry out this family business, His work, matters a great deal.

Jesus reminds us in the Parable of the Minas (Luke Chapter 19 beginning in verse 11) that Jesus has given each one of us gifts and talents—minas—for the profit of His kingdom.  Read this parable and discover for yourself just how serious the Father is about the family business, and how important is the unity of His family.

God has given us tasks to complete, too, in the family business.  Scripture tells us in Ephesians 2:10, "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them."

Further, John 9:4 admonishes us not to procrastinate, stating, "We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work."

So have you adopted the business practices of the Western Culture?  Or, have you renewed your mind to the business practices of our God?  He is the One who truly rules and reigns over all, and He's coming again, sooner than we realize.

Read the Parable of the Minas one more time.

What are you waiting for?

Are you ready?

Goodnight, Runners.
