Preparing a Place
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am." John 14:1-3
"Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord." 2 Corinthians 5:8
Have you ever prepared a place for someone you knew especially well who was coming to live with you?
You would want to make sure you had all of their favorite things in the home, and you would take great care in making sure everything was just right to provide the perfect welcome. You may even invite some of their favorite family members over for a special meal when they arrive in celebration of the occasion. Preferences of every kind would be considered in anticipation of this special someone's arrival, and you would spare no expense.
How much more will God do for those He is preparing a place for? I cannot begin to imagine the care that is going in to the Heavenly Father's plans. Just to think that a holy, faithful, all-knowing God who is the very definition of love is setting things in order for those of us who believe is mind-blowing. He never does anything less than perfect. There will be no shortcuts, no concerns about the budget, no running out of something. He knows everything about us, and He's going to come and get us because He wants us to be where He is . . . always.
In Hebrews 11 when the author of Hebrews tells about the beauty and importance of faith, we read about the ache in the hearts and deep longing to be with Jesus constantly for those of us who believe. In verses 15 and 16 we read, "If they had longed for the country they came from, they could have gone back. But they were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them."
It is Him we will find in that city, in that place prepared for us. He is Heaven.
Are you ready to go home?
Goodnight, Runners.
