Why Seven Bears Publishing

“There are six things the Lord hates—no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord in a family.” Proverbs 6:16-19

I am often asked why and how Seven Bears Publishing received its name.  The answer was never anything deep or profound.  There was a love of bears from the time this author was little, and the fact that seven of us in the family were Baylor Bears.

But the name has grown into so much more for me over time.

As we continue to seek God, He peels back layer upon layer of sin and calcification around our hearts.  He exposes decay, the likes of which we were never truly aware.  And in that peeling away of sin, He adds layer upon layer of His love, His goodness, His truth in its place.  How can we not be overwhelmed with gratitude?  Our God is simply amazing!  The depth of His love—limitless!  This love demonstrated in the suffering and sacrifice of God's only Son, Jesus.  In order for us to understand this great love, it is fitting that we should experience just a taste of His suffering and sacrifice that we might love Him more.

Now the seven bears represent the real joy found in God's forgiveness of every one of these seven things He hates when we will but turn and repent of them, for if we are seeking Him there is evidence of Him.  There is change.

"Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive." Colossians 3:13

May God help those of us who follow to be pleasing to Him.

Goodnight, Runners.
