Never Forget His Love
"He remembered us in our weakness. His faithful love endures forever." Psalm 136:23
Do you know that God loves you right now? I mean, do you really know it?
I once knew a lady who was negative about everything. She couldn't go five minutes without complaining about something or someone. When people asked her why she was so sour she would say, "God must have forgotten about me. Let me tell you about all of the terrible things that have happened to me throughout my life." Then, this sweet, hurting woman would recount the many disappointments she had experienced in her many years of living. It was almost as though the retelling had become a warm blanket.
Clearly, she had experienced immense pain. But she had forgotten something very important.
Hebrews 4:15 reminds us, "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin" (ESV).
And, Romans 8:28, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose" (ESV).
It may seem as though there is no end to pain and suffering in this life, but greater still is that there is no end to God's love for us, as Scripture says, "Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, 'For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.') No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:35-39).
I don't know about you, but when I forget how much God loves me, even for a moment, I get into trouble.
May we rehearse this narrative in our minds, the narrative that says, "Jesus loves me. This I know."
Goodnight, Runners.
