Take Time to Be Holy

"but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:15-16

Are you living a holy life?

The Western culture has a habit of allowing pride to inhibit God's holiness and quench His Spirit's power in our lives.  It doesn't have to be so.

The practice of holiness takes time, much time alone with the triune God.  It requires sacrifice, but not like you might think.  The kind of sacrifice this holiness requires is that we lay down our own selfish wants and set them aside for something far, far greater:  God's desires for us.

Scripture tells us that God's plans for us are so much better than anything we could ever plan for ourselves.  Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope" (ESV).

With each new day and every step, God demonstrates His vast, limitless love for each and every one of us.  Do you see and feel this love from Him?  It is so very real.  We need only reach for Him.  More tender than a mother's love, He is there.  His love draws us to be holy.

This beautiful hymn was written by William D. Longstaff in 1882.  It is no less true today.

Take Time to be Holy
by William D. Longstaff

Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord;
Abide in Him always, and feed on His Word.
Make friends of God’s children, help those who are weak,
Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.

Take time to be holy, the world rushes on;
Spend much time in secret, with Jesus alone.
By looking to Jesus, like Him thou shalt be;
Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.

Take time to be holy, let Him be thy Guide;
And run not before Him, whatever betide.
In joy or in sorrow, still follow the Lord,
And, looking to Jesus, still trust in His Word.

Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul,
Each thought and each motive beneath His control.
Thus led by His Spirit to fountains of love,
Thou soon shalt be fitted for service above.

Goodnight, Runners.
