Liar, Liar Pants on Fire
"But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” Revelation 21:8
These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren.
Are you a liar?
Many people tell all manner of lies. They justify them as peace-keeping and well-meaning, and categorize them as "little" and "white".
But they're still lies.
Truth telling is serious business in God's Holy Book. He doesn't want us to lie, and that has to do with the motivation of our heart. A true lie (oxymoron) encompasses within it the heart's desire to mislead or deceive.
Do you do that?
Scripture tells us in Proverbs 6:6-19 that this is one of the seven sins that are an abomination to God:
If lying is our regular practice, we can confess it, turn from it, asking God to forgive us and to help us stop the sinful practice. He is so amazingly good, loving, kind, and merciful. I know this to be true as He faithfully prunes me, too.
May we join with David in praying to our faithful Father, "Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips and from a deceitful tongue" (Psalms 120:2, NKJV).
Goodnight, Joyful Runners.
