Keeping My Pearls To Myself

“Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you." Matthew 7:6

May I tell you a secret?

Some of us in God's creation tend to overshare.  Beyond that, we tend to speak our mind a bit too often.

Oh, we think we're imparting pearls of wisdom to the world, but we know even before we open our mouths that the words will not be received as such.

That's not really a secret, is it?

I have another not-so-secret secret.  I am inclined to be the person just mentioned.

As God continues to refine me, I can hear Him lovingly speak to my heart to keep my pearls to myself lest me and my pearls go down in a trampling.  The struggle within can be so great that I've taken to wearing a string of pearls on days I know will be the most challenging.  When in the midst of the temptation to share too much "wisdom," I gently reach up and stroke the pearls around my neck.  It is a good reminder that this is where the pearls should stay.

Do you ever have this struggle?

The Holy Bible tells us that God's Kingdom is like a pearl of great price.  Matthew 13:45-46 says, "Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls. When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it!"

Proverbs 23:9 says, "Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, for he will despise the good sense of your words."

If someone is seeking the wisdom of God that we've made a treasure in our soul, then we should never withhold it.  But let's do our best to make sure they are ready to receive.

Goodnight, Runners.
