Becoming a Star

"Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars!"  Psalm 148:3

As a young rascal, I dreamed of being an actress—a star on the world's stage.  In high school, I excelled in One Act Play and skits, and had plans of heading off to California either before or after college to pursue my dream.

But this dream was not to be.

A loving mother and uncle, seeing the pitfalls, flaws (in me), and so much more in the plan, lovingly counseled me in a different direction—God's.

Though selfishness on steroids rarely dies easily, God was at work.

One night many years later, God drew me outside into the beautiful night sky.  It was a clear night, and in the blackness of the sky, the stars seemed to shine especially bright—one star in particular.  God spoke to my heart, encouraging me, telling me that he was polishing me and purifying my life.  He told me not to be discouraged. If I would not resist the polishing and purification, His light within would one day shine just as bold and bright as that star glistening in the night's sky, proclaiming the glory of the Lord.

I smiled in contentment and thanked God for His promise that I was becoming a star, His star, to declare His goodness and glory to all the world.

“And those who are wise—the people of God—shall shine as brightly as the sun’s brilliance, and those who turn many to righteousness will glitter like stars forever" (Daniel 12:3).

Are you becoming a star?

Goodnight, Runners.
