Decisions, Decisions

"for we walk by faith, not by sight." 2 Corinthians 5:7

Do you ever have trouble making decisions?

You examine the decision from every angle.  It is thought, rethought, overthought, and that's just deciding whether or not to have the cookie for dessert, right?

Then, when we finally do make the choice--whatever it may be--we question to death whether it was the right one, as though the world will fall from its axis if we failed to make the correct decision.

Have you ever done that?

I certainly have.  God has been showing me lately just how prideful and completely lacking in faith this kind of behavior really is; because, if I've confessed and repented of sin in my life, and prayed to ask for God's guidance and direction in a thing, then I can be sure He will do what He has promised!  He will guide me.

In Psalm 32:8 we read, "The Lord says, 'I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.'"

The problem comes sometimes after we've made the decision we believe God has led us to.  The result often doesn't look the way we think it should, so we doubt and wonder if we heard God correctly.  "Surely He wouldn't want this," we tell ourselves.  Or, we what if the thing to death.

When we do this, we are looking at the matter with earthly eyes--not His eyes.  Earthly eyes see only the here and now.  Earthly eyes see a dim picture of things.  Earthly eyes can't see all that God is up to--all that He is weaving together so perfectly, miraculously, divinely--in this beautiful, spiritual tapestry our eyes are so very limited to see.

"Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely." 1 Corinthians 13:12

It is important to address the sin in our lives as we seek His counsel, but then we must trust His guidance, remembering we are His dearly loved children and He knows how to lead us.

Do you have a decision to make today?

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take."  Proverbs 3:5-6

Goodnight, Runners.
