I Have Resolved

"I am determined to obey you until I die." Psalm 119:112

Each and every day we have a choice to make. That choice is whether or not we will choose God’s way or our own.

When we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, sin no longer controls us like it did in the past. We are now free to follow the Holy Spirit. He has written His laws upon our heart. Yet we still have the ability to overrule the Spirit living in us, choosing to sin. And God loves us enough to convict us of this sin, through His Spirit. We must choose daily to obey Him, to follow Him.

There is a beautiful hymn entitled “I Am Resolved” by Palmer Hartsough, published in 1896. The first and last verse and refrain are as follows, reminding us of our need to be resolute in following after Christ:

I am resolved no longer to linger,
Charmed by the world’s delight.
Things that are higher, things that are nobler,
These have allured my sight.

Refrain:

I will hasten to Him,
Hasten so glad and free;
Jesus, greatest, highest,
I will come to Thee.

I am resolved, and who will go with me?
Come, friends, without delay;
Taught by the Bible, led by the Spirit,
We’ll walk the heav’nly way.

May we resolve to follow Him each and every day of our lives.
