Always Before Me

“For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time.”  Hebrews‬ ‭10:10‬

It is almost Easter.

Somehow--as if it could even be possible--the sacrifice that Jesus made for me is even more special this year.  Perhaps that's in part due to the pandemic, COVID-19.  I think it's a blessing in disguise, as Laura Story sings.

But, pandemic or no pandemic, is it always before me--this sacrifice that Jesus made?

The Holy Bible tells me that it should be.  That's because a mind set on the sacrifice of Jesus is a mind that has crucified the passions that the world has to offer and replaced them with a passion for the will of God.

Do you have that passion?

When I was a little girl and got into trouble for disobeying my parents, they spanked me for good reason.  That physical discipline was enough suffering to make me not want to disobey them again.  Some of us are more rebellious, requiring more suffering.

But, those who are trained by this type of physical discipline tend not to need it as they mature.  Why?  Well, I think it is because they have a mind that remembers the physical discipline, the suffering they received.  To know Jesus more, we need to have a mind that remembers His suffering on our behalf.

Philippians 3:10 tells us, "that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,"  because that's what happens when His suffering is always before us--we get to know Him.

1 Peter 4:1-2 says, "Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God."

Is the suffering Jesus experienced always before you?

It's a beautiful change of perspective.

Happy Easter.
