Let Freedom Ring

"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom."  2 Corinthians 3:17

Independence Day has come and gone, but the quest for freedom continues.

There are those who long for freedom from oppression of all kinds, slavery in many countries--including our own.  Bondage takes many different forms.  Some people feel enslaved in their own homes.  You may be that person, reading right now, who feels enslaved or trapped and longs to be free.  But, there is something about freedom that many do not understand.

True freedom is not independence.  True freedom is dependence upon God.

There is a beautiful passage of scripture talking about God's sovereignty that says it like this, "So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy (Romans 9:16).

We often work and fight so hard for our rights and to receive what we think freedom ought to look like, but apart from God and the power of His Holy Spirit, there really is no freedom at all, is there?

Romans 6:22 tells us, "But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life."

We get it so backwards, don't we?

"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom."  2 Corinthians 3:17

Let freedom ring!  May it ring in your heart and in my heart as people that we meet every day find the Spirit of the Lord dwelling in us, working in us, and bearing much fruit in us at every interaction.
