Say It Isn't So

"Let God’s curse fall on anyone, including us or even an angel from heaven, who preaches a different kind of Good News than the one we preached to you."  Galatians 1:8

Have you ever known people who say things they want to be true as though they are true?  It's usually about something they perceive as negative.  Maybe they don't want to face the reality of the perceived negative something, so they say the negative thing is really something great and positive.  It's as though they think saying it will just make it reality.

But, there's a problem with that.  Simply saying something is so, doesn't make it true.

It's lying.

And, there's something else that's wrong with that--our motivation.

The truth by its very nature is confrontational.  But, that's a good thing, a positive thing. Although, some of us don't like being confronted about anything, much less our own sin.  We don't like those repent and obey words we find throughout Scripture.

Sadder still is the fact that so many of our churches have removed these words, as well.  Fearful that they might upset or offend someone, they have traded the truth about God for a lie (Romans 1:25), as though not speaking it will somehow make it not so.  I’m grateful for those still sharing the wonderful Good News message.

John 8:31-32 tells us, "Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings.  And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”  Jesus is talking about freedom from slavery to sin in this passage, and what a glorious freedom it is!  There is none greater, my friend.

Do you know the Good News?

It is this:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.  And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.  For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.  But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”  John 3:16-21

May you know this Good News to be true--more than anything else you've ever known in your life.

And, may you have the best day you've ever had in your life.

Goodnight, Runners.
