I Don't Wanna Be a Ham
"And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside." Genesis 9:22
Are you a Ham?
I’m not talking about the class clown here. This is about Noah’s son, Ham. The one who found his father drunk and naked in the tent after the flood, and couldn’t wait to tell everyone he could find, which happened to be his two brothers.
I’ve been a Ham far too many times to count, and much more often than I care to remember. But I do . . . remember.
Do you?
I’ve exposed the sins of my husband, my children, my boss, my parents, my siblings, pretty much anyone and everyone I’ve ever known. . . except my own.
It brings me to tears and breaks my heart to think of how completely dishonoring that is. And, I'm grateful for a God who loves me enough to convict me of my sin and lead me to repentance.
The Holy Bible tells us that Ham was punished severely for his sin. Genesis 9:24-25 tells us, “When Noah woke up from his stupor, he learned what Ham, his youngest son, had done. Then he cursed Canaan, the son of Ham: 'May Canaan be cursed! May he be the lowest of servants to his relatives.'”
You should read all of Genesis 9. It’s an amazing story, telling of God’s provision, righteousness, justice, mercy and love.
I'm grateful that God has been merciful to me, a sinner, and I don't want to be a Ham, anymore.
Confession is good for the soul, but repentance is better.
