God's Yardstick

"Oh, don’t worry, I wouldn’t dare say that I am as wonderful as these other men who tell you how good they are! Their trouble is that they are only comparing themselves with each other and measuring themselves against their own little ideas. What stupidity!"  2 Corinthians 10:12

Whom do you use as your standard of comparison? Do you use the world as your standard?

Using the world as our yardstick is only natural, but therein lies the problem. God is divine, and so is His standard for us.

Romans 8:9 tells us, “But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all)."

Choosing to live by the Holy Spirit’s power is just that--a choice, an act of the will. It is an act of faith. We cannot attain God’s standard apart from the sacrifice of Jesus and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8:3 says, “The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins."

May we put an end to using anything in the world as our standard, and may God’s Word be our standard of measurement today and always.

Goodnight, Runners.
