The Joy of Family

“And may you treat me with the faithful love of the Lord as long as I live. But if I die, treat my family with this faithful love, even when the Lord destroys all your enemies from the face of the earth.”  1 Samuel 20:14-15

Had an awesome time at the Cliburn family reunion today in Sunriver, Oregon.  This is my mother’s side of the family, and many of them I had not seen in over forty years.  They are all priceless treasures to me, and I honestly do not think I could love them any more.  There is a warmth, a love, a loyalty and acceptance I get from them that is something many families never experience.

It was a bittersweet day for me, too, in that three years ago today God called my mom home to Heaven with Him.  And, while I know she was ready to go, there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t miss her sweet love.

My mother always had a strong bond and deep love for her family.  It was one of the many ways she showed me what God’s love is like.  His love for us is unconditional, and while we may disappoint Him, He never ever stops loving us.

The Cliburn family still shows that same faithful love to me.

May we show God’s love to others in that same way.  We may be the only Jesus they ever see.

Goodnight, Runners.
