Light Up the Sky

"When he speaks in the thunder, the heavens roar with rain.  He causes the clouds to rise over the earth.  He sends the lightning with the rain and releases the wind from his storehouses."  Jeremiah 10:13

At the end of tonight's run, storm clouds rolled in, and the sky began to rumble in the distance.  I knew the lightning was coming, so it was time to finish up and head indoors.  Just inside the door, the brilliant lightning bolts began to flash across the sky, accompanied by the roar of God's thunderous voice.

I love the way Job describes the thunder in Job 37:4-5, "Then comes the roaring of the thunder—the tremendous voice of his majesty.  He does not restrain it when he speaks.  God’s voice is glorious in the thunder.  We can’t even imagine the greatness of his power."

Throughout my life, God's comforting presence has been evident in the sky He lights up before me.  He makes His presence known through the twinkling and melodious stars, the sun, the moon, the planets, the rainbow, and yes, the lightning bolts He hurls.  It is how He makes His presence known to all humanity (Romans 1:20).

Have you considered His goodness to you today?  It is overwhelming.

Have you considered His power today?  It is fearsome.

Have you considered His presence today?  It is divine.

Ecclesiastes 12:2 tells us to, "Remember him before the light of the sun, moon, and stars is dim to your old eyes, and rain clouds continually darken your sky."

One day, the light show will be unimaginable.  Are you ready?

"For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other, so it will be on the day when the Son of Man comes" (Luke 17:24).

May we be found ready when our loving Heavenly Father lights up the sky one final time.
