Oh, Be Careful

“So be very careful to love the Lord your God.”  Joshua 23:11

When I was a little girl, my mother would sing a song called, Oh, Be Careful, that begins like this:

Oh, Be Careful

Oh, be careful little eyes
what you see
Oh, be careful little eyes
what you see

For the Father up above
is looking down in love
So, be careful little eyes
what you see

This song goes on to talk about what we hear, do, say, and where we go.

The older I get, the more I realize how important this song is no matter what age we are. Life with God is not a trivial affair to be entered into lightly. The warning to “be careful” is used ninety-two times in the New Living Translation of the Holy Bible.

Proverbs 4:23 tells us, “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”

In this world of temptation at every turn, may we remember to raise our standard, being careful to guard what we see, what we hear, what we say, what we do, and where we go today and every day.

One life can make a powerful difference in eternity.
