Disguised

“These people are false apostles. They are deceitful workers who disguise themselves as apostles of Christ. But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” 2 Corinthians 11:13-14

Sometimes life can seem like a perpetual masquerade party. Just when you’re getting to know someone, you find out they are not who they claimed to be at all.

And, what about those people that you’ve known for years. One day, you wake up and realize they are completely different people with entirely different motives than they led you to believe they were. They claim to be Christians, but their walk doesn’t match their talk one iota.

God’s Word helps us to distinguish between real and disguised Christians. I John 3:10 tells us, “So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God.”

Matthew 7:15 reminds us, “Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves.” Verse twenty says, “Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.”

May we be mindful of the many who are masquerading as God’s children around us. May we examine their fruit.

And, may we trust the Holy Spirit to shepherd us from the many disguised wolves in the world around us.
