DIY Girl

“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:5

Are you the independent type?

From the time I was very young, I liked to do things for myself.  I liked doing things my way.  It started with cutting my bangs.  I refused to wait for mother to trim my bangs as a five-year-old and decided to do it myself.  The result was not a good one, and the next day was picture day in kindergarten.

Next, it was hemming my pants without asking for help or getting instruction.  One leg was longer than the other, and every stitch was visible from the outside.

Then there was the time my husband and I wallpapered our bathroom without having any clue what we were doing.  The seams didn't line up and there were bubbles and tears in various places that we hoped no one would notice.

When we try to live life on our own it's a lot like those DIY projects gone awry.  We need our Heavenly Father to guide us through the course of our lives that we might avoid pitfalls and walk in the abundant life He desires for us.

Psalm 32:8 tells us, "The Lord says, 'I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.'"

John 15:4 says, "Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me."

When we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, we give up living life on our own.  We repent of our sinful ways, and we go a new way:  God's way.  His way is far better than any DIY project you or I could ever have for ourselves.

Goodnight, Runners.
