The Pursuit of Greatness

"Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!" 1 Corinthians 9:24

Our family loves to watch the Olympics.  There is something so inspiring about hearing each athlete's personal story, the obstacles they've overcome to arrive at the Olympics, and their impassioned training regimen, as well.  They go to extreme lengths and stop at nothing to achieve greatness in their particular field, continuing to hone their skill.

It is often exhausting and discouraging.  Each of the athletes talks of their own times of feeling overwhelmed, defeated, and wanting to quit.  Yet, they press on for that gold medal that awaits them.  And, they give it their all.

The Christian life is like that.  We each have our own personal story of how we've come to know Christ and the obstacles we've overcome.  And, the pursuit of Him is an active endeavor.  It requires effort on our part--a great deal of effort--as any noble pursuit.  And, it can be discouraging, even overwhelming at times.

Are you going to extreme lengths to pursue Christ?  Will you stop at nothing to reach Him, in pursuit of Him?

Don't give up.

The Holy Bible tells us in Philippians 3:14, "I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us."

Keep going.  The race isn't over yet.
