Too Late

“When the master of the house has locked the door, it will be too late. You will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Lord, open the door for us!’ But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’” Luke 13:25

There are a number of popular Christian songs out today containing the line “it’s never too late.” And, while I know the writers have the best of intentions and mean nothing but encouragement, the words are not true.

The Holy Bible teaches us that one day it will be too late for us to turn to Christ. One day it will be too late for us to choose to be obedient to Christ. And, one day the door to the Master’s house will be closed and locked.

So often, we want to paint our picture with a broad brush that accepts everyone into God’s Kingdom because God is love (I John 4:8). But, the road that leads to Him is a narrow road, and only few ever find it (Matthew 7:14). It is the road of obedience, and there is no substitute for that obedience. We cannot choose our own way and God’s way, too.

Satan would have you to believe that a loving God would not make you give up your own way and your own desires, but it is a lie. It is the love of God that requires you to give up your own way—your way of selfishness and sin.

May we realize the truth and communicate this truth to everyone we come into contact with, that this truth will set them free from the bondage of sin, death, and hell both now and forever.
