Dry Bones

“The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones.  He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry.  He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.” Ezekiel 37:1-3

Have you ever felt as though things in your life were hopeless?

Israel did, too.

In this passage of Scripture, the Holy Spirit brings Ezekiel out into the middle of a valley. The valley is filled with bones. The bones are very dry, with not even the slightest hint that there was ever life in them at all.

These dry, lifeless bones represent the nation of Israel. The people of Israel felt dead, lifeless, and as though there was absolutely no hope for them or their nation at all.

But, the Holy Spirit asks Ezekiel whether or not these dry, lifeless bones can live again.

Do you believe that the dry, lifeless pieces of your life can live again?

Clearly, all things are possible with God (Matthew 19:26). He can make even dry, lifeless bones come to life again. He is the giver of hope to the hopeless (I Peter 1:3).

Psalm 42:8 tells us, “But each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life.”

May you pray, giving all the hopeless pieces of your life to the Father, and may He breathe His life-giving hope into every part of you this day.
