Love's Perfect Timing

“Promise me, O women of Jerusalem, by the gazelles and wild deer, not to awaken love until the time is right.”  Song of Solomon 2:7

There has been much conflicting commentary written about this passage of Scripture.

Some believe it is a picture of the place of peace and love Christ has in fellowship with His bride, the Church, and that the meaning is that we are not to disturb this fellowship with our own impatience. But, in fact, we are to rest in God’s timing for all things.

Still others believe this verse depicts the charge given to the young, immature believer impetuously clamoring for the action and attention of the Heavenly Father, who would disturb His communion with each and every one of us, causing Him to pull away and break fellowship.

Regardless of whether these two thoughts or still another is your belief, this verse warns us about the delicate nature of relationships. The care and patience required in maintaining true communion with another is not to be taken lightly, and it is not to be rushed.

We must wait for God’s timing in all things.

Are you waiting for God’s perfect timing?

Have you stirred up or awakened love before its proper time?

May we seek God when it comes to love’s perfect timing in every area of our lives—today and every day.
