Continuing Education

“Teach me your ways, O Lord, that I may live according to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you.” Psalm 86:11

As a youngster, I was one of those kids who couldn’t wait to be finished with school. I went to college at age sixteen, finished in three and a half years, and celebrated that I was done with school for life.

It was quite a surprise to my perfectly-planned world when I learned soon after landing my first job that I would have to hit the books again . . . permanently.

Continuing education is a part of life—not just in business—but, in our spiritual life, as well.

Joshua 1:8 tells us, “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”

When we study God’s Word, we begin to grow deeper in our understanding of His plan and purpose for our lives. He communicates with us, teaches, and leads us through His Word.

2 Peter 1:8 tells us, “The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Let us not be like those addressed in Hebrews 5:12, which says, “You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food.”

May we continue our education, growing in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, each and every moment until He calls us home.
