A Prayer for Development of a Cure

Throughout history, God has given people the power and authority to cure illness and disease. In the Old Testament, this power was often given through prophets and priests. In the New Testament, this power was seen often through Jesus and his twelve followers. Since Bible times, God has given this authority and power to many whom some may consider unlikely.

God used Canadian surgeon, Frederick Banting, to pioneer the use of insulin for the treatment of diabetes. Frederick Banting had originally planned on going into the ministry, but God had a ministry of different sorts for Banting—medicine.

In the early 1920s, Frederick Banting had a new idea for finding both the cause and the treatment for what was then called “sugar disease.” Through experimenting with dogs, Banting and his assistant, Charles Best, and others at the University of Toronto, were able to isolate insulin as both the cure and cause for the deadly effects of diabetes.

Although Frederick Banting and Charles Best did not eradicate diabetes, the diagnosis was no longer the death sentence it had once been.

We read about similar discoveries in the realm of medicine every single day. How merciful, loving, powerful and gracious is our God!

In Psalm 17:6 David said, “I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray.”

What an inspiring picture of the relationship David had with Our Heavenly Father.

Our Father in Heaven,

We come before you this day asking that you forgive us for our sins and reveal any unconfessed sins we may have in our lives. May we have a clear conscience before You today.

We thank You, Father, for bending down to hear us when we pray. Help us to listen to You.

Father, we ask today for a cure for _________________________. We know that you do not ignore the cries of those who suffer, as Your Word says in Psalm 9:12.

We thank You, O Lord, for empowering the men and women who have gone before us in developing cures. May you pour out Your power, authority and wisdom today on whom You please in developing a cure for ________________________.

Let Your grace, mercy, love and power be evident to all.

In Your perfect, holy name we pray.

AMEN.
