Joyful Purpose

God created each and every one of us for a very special purpose. Proverbs 16:4 tells us, “The Lord has made everything for his own purposes, even the wicked for a day of disaster.” He has a plan for your life.

But, that doesn’t mean that we can or should go about living our lives without any thought because God is our great puppet master in the heavens. No, the Bible clearly tells us in John 10:10, “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”

We are in the midst of a spiritual battle. God longs to give us victory over sin and death, but there is a thief among us—a wolf. Many times he dresses in sheep’s clothing—the better to see, hear and taste us.

God’s purpose is that none of us should perish, but that all should come to know Him. We are all a part of this divine plan, and God longs for us to be unified in this purpose for His glory. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”

If we are unified in our purpose of bringing glory and honor to God, then we must set about using the abilities and talents He has given us for His glory—not our own.

I Corinthians 9:26 says, “So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing.”

C. S. Lewis once said, “Aim at heaven and you will get earth thrown in. Aim at earth and you get neither.”

Ask God to fulfill His purpose in your life today.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We cry out to You, asking and believing that You will fulfill Your purpose in and for our lives (Psalm 57:2). Thank You for Your awesome power at work in our lives. We praise You for all of creation, and that not even the smallest detail of Your creation will disappear until its purpose is achieved (Matthew 5:18).

Father, we ask that You would lead us and guide us as we read Your Word, showing us the unique talents and abilities You are calling us to use for the glory and honor of Your purpose.

Protect us from temptation, Father. Guard our bodies, hearts, minds, spirits, and emotions from any and all evil.

May we run with endurance the race You have set before us (Hebrews 12:1). And, may we run in such a way as to win the prize (I Corinthians 9:24), that You may say to us, “Well done, my good and faithful servant (Matthew 25:21).”

Forgive us for selfish ambitions, and following after worldly lusts that don’t satisfy us.

We thank You, Father, that one day we will celebrate the accomplishment of Your purpose together in Heaven.

In Your precious, holy name we pray.

AMEN.
