A Prayer for Helping Hands

“Give me a helping hand, for I have chosen to follow your commandments.” Psalm 119:173

Each of us is in need of helping hands at some point and time in our lives. That is the way that God created us. He wants us to fellowship with one another and to bear each other’s burdens.

My father has always been an excellent example to me of someone who offers his hands to help others in need. As a young girl, I remember many times when my father was not home because someone needed a helping hand in painting their house, or mending a broken porch step. He always felt an urgency to help those in need of assistance when it was within his power to do so.

But, what if you are that person in need of assistance? How do you gain access to those helping hands—the helping hands of God in your life?

The Bible tells us that when our walk is blameless and our hearts are seeking after God in all things, we can pray to God and ask Him to save those who are in trouble, and He will help them (Job 22:29).

Ezra 8:23 says, “So we fasted and earnestly prayed that our God would take care of us, and he heard our prayer.”

God can and will do the same for you.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We humbly bow before You, thanking You for Your unfailing grace, mercy and love for us. We ask that You forgive us for our many failures.

Lord, we need Your hands to help us today. We ask specifically, for Your help in ___________________. We thank You for hearing our prayer, Father, and for answering in accordance with Your mighty power.

We praise You for constantly caring for us and for our every need.

Strengthen us in our weakness, Father, and guide us in Your path of light. Give us opportunity to be Your helping hands and feet to others who are in need. May we always show Your abundant love to everyone we meet.

Thank You, Father, for helping hands that have rescued me in days past.

It is in Your precious name we pray.

AMEN.
