Joy in the Tumbler

My daughter, Meredith, is an avid rock collector. She can find beauty in what most would consider the oddest of places. Recently, she found what I would call a very plain, unbeautiful rock. She carefully wrapped up the rock and brought it home, pronouncing it beautiful.

When I questioned Meredith about why she found this particular rock to be so beautiful, she responded with, "It only needs a few passes through the rock tumbler for you to see how beautiful it really is, Momma." Meredith was sure of its beauty.

God is sure of your beauty, too. Do you feel as though you are in the rock tumbler today? Remember that the rock tumbler is only going to help others see the true beauty of Christ in you.

The Bible is full of stories in which people did not see the true beauty of Christ living within. Most people didn't even recognize God's glory in Jesus Christ himself! Isaiah 53:2 tells us, "He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him."

Like the first diamond ever discovered in a coal mine, like David, whom others saw as a shepherd boy and God saw as King, may you be made beautiful in God's tumbler. And, may you have the best week you've ever had in your life.

"To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory." Isaiah 61:3 NLT
