A Little Something About Grace

"God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it." Ephesians 2:8-9

In entering the season of this life where I attend more funerals than weddings, and more hospital beds than baby showers, I am struck by something so very wonderful.

God's grace.

Most family and friends entering eternity of late imagine that they have another day yet to do all the things—the things on their "tomorrow" list.  May God teach us, each one, to number our days the right way (Psalms 90:12).

Yet, here is where I find the grand beauty of it all.  In all of our failings, shortcomings, and unfinished lists, there is God.  And if we believe in Him, we know He is able.  He is able to do, to be, to fill-in-the-blank of whatever you and I could ever possibly need because His grace is greater than all our sin.

And while we should never use God's good grace extended toward us as an excuse to sin, it is such an unfathomable comfort as we seek to do His will each day and often come up short.

So, if you're struggling in defeat, despair, and discouragement over past sins, take heart, my friend, and believe.  I've seen just a corner of the tapestry He's weaving out of your life and mine, and it's pretty amazing.

Romans 5:17 says, "For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ" (NLT).

May we live and thrive in this truth today, seeking His will in all that we say and everything that we do.

"We believe that we are all saved the same way, by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus" (Acts 15:11, NLT).

Goodnight, Runners.
